Last year I signed up for Michael's Painting Intensive Work Shop. It was canceled and held over to this year. What a wonderful experience. I was introduced to Trina, Michael's wife , a textile artist, and welcomed into their home where I was treated with yummy meals and sweet treats and a wonderful dog named Raku. Daily plein air sessions and mentoring on process as well as an introduction to monographs in Michael's library made the experience more than I ever expected. Our conversations and adventures introduced me to a new process of developing a studio piece from plein air sketches of color relationships, charcoal value sketches.
Since I had worked with Michael in zoom mentoring sessions during covid, working with him in person was a delight. I had to pinch myself daily, to believe I was actually in Ramah.

The weather was chilly but the fall color had already turned some trees golden. The red rock was close so the shift from a Maryland pallet and light was what i wanted to tackle. Visiting the Zuni Pueblo, and the El Morro National Monument gave historical information that enriched my knowledge of the state. Working with oil pastels was a challenge but well worth the effort.

Now it is time to get to work.
